Take orders on WhatsApp

Turn what you make into a page customers order from. They tick items, answer your questions, and press send — the order arrives in your WhatsApp with the items, quantities, total and their details already written out.

If you bake, cook or make things at home, your orders probably arrive as WhatsApp messages: a photo of a cake, a question about price, three more messages to pin down the date. It works, but you retype your prices all day and orders still arrive half-finished.

A WhatsApp order page fixes the half-finished part. You put up what you make, with prices and photos. Your customer ticks what they want, answers the questions you actually need answered, and presses send. The order lands in your WhatsApp already written out — items, quantities, total, their name, their phone, the date they need it.

You still agree everything in the chat, and you still take payment the way you do now. Nothing changes about how you work, except that you stop retyping.

This takes about 15 minutes to set up. You do not need to be technical.

See one before you build one

Here is a sample order page built exactly this way, a home cake shop with three items. Point your phone camera at the code, or open uyou.in/abc-homemade-cake-shop on the device you are reading this on. Add a cake, open the cart, fill in the questions and press send: WhatsApp opens with the order written out, and nothing is sent until you press send there too.

What your customer sees

This is the finished thing, on a phone. One page, your items, a cart.

An order page on a phone: the shop name, a search box, category buttons and items with prices and an Add to order button

They tap any item to see it properly — the photo full size, the whole description, your details ("Serves 10–12", "Notice 1 day"), and the same button to add it.

One item opened: a large photo, the name, the price, its categories, the description, a list of details and an Add to order button

As they add things, each row turns into a − 1 + counter and a bar appears along the bottom with the running total.

The page with two items chosen, each showing a counter, and a bar at the bottom reading 2 items, $57, View Cart

View Cart opens the order: what they picked, the total, and your questions.

The cart: two items with counters, the total, four questions filled in, and a Send order on WhatsApp button

When they press Send order on WhatsApp, WhatsApp opens on their phone with this typed and ready to send to you:

Hi Sweet Home Bakes! I'd like to order:

1. Chocolate truffle cake × 1 — $45
2. Red velvet jar cakes × 1 — $12

Total: $57

Your name: Asha Menon
Phone number: 555 0100 188
Pickup or delivery: Delivery
When do you need it? Saturday morning

They press send in WhatsApp, and it arrives in your chats like any other message. Now let us build it.

Before you start

Handy to have, none of it essential:

Step 1: Choose the WhatsApp orders template

Sign in, open Landing Pages in the left menu, and click New page. In the gallery, pick WhatsApp orders.

The template gallery with the WhatsApp orders template

It arrives with a few example items, categories and questions filled in, so you can see the shape of it. You will replace those with yours as you go.

Step 2: Name it and pick your colour

The editor has two halves. You make changes on the left; the right is a live preview of what your customers will see, updating as you type. You never have to guess.

The editor: the form on the left, a live phone preview on the right showing the order page

In Details, fill in:

Below that, Social links is worth two minutes: add your Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, X, website or email, and they appear as small icons beside your name. Someone who finds your page before they trust you usually goes looking for your photos first.

Buttons, under that again, puts full-width buttons above your items — "See last week's cakes", pointing at your Instagram. Each one needs a link chosen beside it; a button with no link is left off the page. Most order pages do not need one, because every item already has its own button.

Step 3: Add your WhatsApp number

This is the important field. It is the first card of the Orders editor, Where orders go; the editor is four numbered cards, and this is step 1.

The Orders on WhatsApp block: a country dropdown set to United States, the number 5550100123, a currency symbol of dollar and a button label reading Add to order

Under the number you will see a line confirming what WhatsApp will actually be opened with. Check it against your phone. It has to be the number that has WhatsApp on it — an order cannot reach a landline.

Step 4: Add your categories

Categories are the groups your customer taps at the top: Cakes, Brownies, Bestsellers, Savoury. They work like tags — one item can be in two of them.

The Categories list with Bestsellers, Cakes and Snacks, arrows to reorder and a box to add another

Type a name and click Add category. Add them in the order you want them shown. The arrows move one up or down; the ✕ removes it.

Worth adding: a Bestsellers category. New customers usually want to be told what to order, and it puts your best three at the front.

If you only sell five things, you can skip categories altogether — the page simply shows one list.

Step 5: Add what you sell

Step 3, its own card below the categories, is What you sell, with your category buttons repeated above the list. The number on each button is how many items are in it, which is a quick way to spot one you have not filled in.

The easy way through a long list is one category at a time: tap Cakes, click Add item to Cakes, and everything you add is already filed there.

One item being edited: the photo square, the item name, the price with a dollar sign in front, a button label, a description, two detail rows and the chosen categories

For each item:

Where details show up: the first three appear as small tags in the list, and all of them appear when a customer opens the item. They are searchable too, as long as Enable product search is on — someone typing "eggless" into the search box finds the item whose details say so, even when the name does not. Keep them short: they are facts, not sentences, and anything longer belongs in the description.

The arrows reorder an item; the ✕ removes it.

Step 6: Decide what to ask before an order

This is the part that saves you the back-and-forth. Whatever you ask here is answered before the order reaches you.

The order form builder: four questions, each with a text box or dropdown, a Required tick, and reorder buttons

Each question has:

A page starts with Your name, Phone number, Pickup or delivery, and When do you need it?, which is a good set for most home businesses. Add your own with Add a question, up to twelve.

Keep it short. Every question is one more thing to fill in on a phone, one-handed, and a long form loses orders. Ask what you need to start work: who, when, and where if you deliver.

Step 7: Check the preview

The phone on the right is the real thing, not a drawing. Tap through it.

The live preview panel showing the order page with items, prices and the cart bar

Worth checking:

Step 8: Save, then print your code

Before you save, look at the Share link card at the top. Leave it alone and your page gets an address like uyou.in/abc123; open Custom short code and you can have uyou.in/sweethome instead, if nobody has taken it. Worth doing — this is the one you will end up reading out over the phone.

Click Create page. You get two things:

Whichever a customer uses, they land on the same page. The QR code is saved in QR Codes, so its scans are counted there, and it keeps working forever — because it points at your page, not at your prices.

Changing a price later: edit it and save. The same link and the same printed code show the new price within about 15 minutes. You never reprint because a price changed.

Refresh speed, further down the editor, is where that "about 15 minutes" comes from. Fifteen is the default; 5 minutes and 1 minute are available on higher plans. Your change is saved the moment you press save either way — the wait is only how long the previous copy can still be served from our cache.

What this page does not do

Worth being straight about, so nothing surprises you:

Add ?q= and a word to your page's link, and it opens with that search already typed in: uyou.in/abc-cakes?q=brownie shows only the items that match. Send that in a reply to "do you do brownies?", and your customer lands on the brownies with the Add button right there.

Tips from real use

Send us your list and we will type it in

If your prices live in a notebook, a PDF or a stack of WhatsApp messages, you do not have to type them in. Email what you have to support@uyou.in and we will set up your items, prices and categories for you, free. You add the photos and publish.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the order actually go?

Into your WhatsApp, as a normal message from the customer's own number. Nothing is stored by uYou, so you reply and confirm in the chat exactly as you do now.

Do my customers need an app or an account?

No. They open your link or scan your code, tick what they want, fill in your questions and press send. WhatsApp opens with the order already typed. They need WhatsApp itself, nothing else.

Can I take payment on the page?

No. This page gets you the order; you agree payment in the chat the way you already do. There is no card form and no fee.

What about something I have to quote for, like a tiered cake?

Leave its price empty. It reads "Price on request" and the order says "price on request" for that line, so you quote in your reply. The total only counts the items that have a price, and it says "Total for priced items" so nobody reads it as the whole bill.

Can I put my Instagram on the page?

Yes. In Social links add Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, X, your website or an email address; they show as small icons beside your name at the top of the page.

What if someone orders twenty things?

WhatsApp limits how much a link can type for them, so a very long order keeps the first items and ends with "…and 6 more items". The total still counts everything and all your questions are still answered — ask in the chat for the rest.

Can I change a price without reprinting my QR code?

Yes. The code points at your page, not at the prices. Edit the price, save, and the same code shows the new one within about 15 minutes.

Can I use a number that is not my WhatsApp?

No. The order opens a WhatsApp chat with the number on the page, so it has to be the number that has WhatsApp on it — a landline or a number without WhatsApp will not receive anything.
